Adventure and Fixed Party are play modes. Normal and Hard difficulties are available. Players choose two four-character sides. Starter characters, original versions, and toys of first-game characters can be swapped in and out of the party. As players progress, they collect more party members, with 40 in the first four games. Fredbear will offer advice along the way. Fredbear seems aware of his situation, so his tips often break the fourth wall.
Exploring and reaching new areas is the gameplay. After pressing a special button in new areas, the player can use "jump" to teleport through the overworld map. Since Version 1.2 in May 2016, the world has been redesigned to a pre-rendered 3D style. Throughout the game, unique enemy characters can be fought. After defeating an enemy, the player receives "Faz Tokens" to buy upgrades such as "chips" and "bytes"
Random turn-based battles include boss fights. Each turn, the player chooses one of three character-specific commands. Different colored cards have different effects, such as healing the whole team (pink), providing buffs (white), attacking a single target (orange), attacking Area (red), poisoning (green), and instantly destroying attacks (black). The player must wait some time between turns. Players can swap teams at any time. After each battle, all characters, even losers, are fully healed.
